Privacy Policy
Kopit Cal is built local-first. Your events and tasks live in the macOS Calendar and Reminders through Apple's EventKit — and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud account. Kopit Cal has no account of its own, runs no servers that store your data, and includes no analytics or tracking. This policy explains what stays on your device, the limited data the app fetches, and how the Mac App Store fits in.
Last updated: July 17, 2026
The short version
- Your events and tasks are stored in the system Calendar and Reminders, not in a Kopit Cal database.
- There is no Kopit Cal account and no third-party sign-in.
- Multi-device sync happens through your own iCloud account, managed by Apple.
- The app fetches public-holiday feeds over HTTPS to show dates — with nothing about you attached.
- We run no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking, and we sell nothing.
1. Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy applies to the Kopit Cal (历历) application for macOS (the App) and the Kopit Cal website (the Site). By using the App or the Site, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Your calendar data stays with you
Kopit Cal is a front-end to your existing calendars and reminder lists. When you grant access, it reads and writes events and tasks through Apple's EventKit framework, so that data lives in the macOS Calendar and Reminders and — if you use iCloud — in your own iCloud account.
Kopit Cal keeps no separate copy of your events or tasks on any server we operate. We have no ability to access, read, or recover your calendar data.
3. Permissions you grant
The first time you use calendar or reminder features, macOS asks your permission to access Calendar and Reminders. You can review or revoke this access at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security. On the Mac App Store build, the App is sandboxed and requests only the entitlements it needs: Calendar, Reminders, and outgoing network access for holiday feeds and updates.
4. Holiday and subscription data
To display holidays, Kopit Cal fetches public data over HTTPS: the open holiday-cn dataset for Mainland China (including 调休), the official Hong Kong public-holiday feed, the free Nager.Date service for other countries and regions, and any iCal / webcal links you choose to add.
These are ordinary requests for public calendar data. They carry no account identifier and no information about you or your events; they simply ask the provider for holiday dates. Any third-party feed you add is subject to that provider's own terms.
5. Limited network activity
The App works offline for its core calendar, lunar, and task features. It connects to the network only to fetch the holiday and subscription feeds described above, and — for the Developer ID build — to check for software updates. Your calendar and task content is never part of those exchanges.
6. No analytics or tracking
Kopit Cal contains no analytics SDK, no telemetry, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. We do not build a profile of you, and there is nothing to opt out of because there is nothing collecting data in the first place.
7. Distribution and updates
Kopit Cal is distributed through the Mac App Store. Downloads and updates are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. If you use a Developer ID build obtained directly, updates are delivered and signature-verified through the app's updater.
8. Data retention
Because your events and tasks are stored in the system apps and your iCloud, their retention is controlled by you and by Apple — delete an item and it's gone from those stores. Holiday feed responses are cached locally only to render the calendar and are refreshed on update.
9. Security
Calendar and reminder data is protected by macOS user-account and file-system protections and by Apple's EventKit and iCloud security. Network requests for holiday feeds and updates use encrypted HTTPS connections.
10. Your rights
Because your calendar data lives on your device and in your own iCloud account, you control it directly — view, edit, or delete it in the system apps at any time. Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@kopit.app.
11. Children
Kopit Cal is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the Last updated date above.
